The undergraduate program leading to a BA in Broadcast Communication seeks to provide students with the requisite training to become future broadcast practitioners who are competent, critical, and responsible.
At the same time, graduates are enabled to adapt to the changing broadcast landscape in terms of new technologies, new modes of production, distribution, and exhibition of broadcast products. Some of the Department’s projects include, the UP Cyberdwendes, UPTV Online and Kritika: A Festival of Criticisms. The Department also operates and maintains the official radio station of the University, DZUP 1602.
The broadcast program was established through a resolution approved by the UP Board of Regents on May 4, 1967. For a long time, the College was the only academic institution offering broadcasting as a degree course. The Commission on Higher Eduction uses the CMC Broadcast curriculum as the standard for other broadcast academic programs in the country. The Department boasts of a dynamic audio-visual culture, stoked by its faculty who are deep into historical, cultural and critical research, as well as practitioners in the field who offer their experience and insights on the industry.
The Broadcast Department has also been active in spearheading alternative, and transformative media productions, as well as online content, social media and interactive media streamed on the Web.
The Commission on Higher Education has named the Department a Center of Excellence in Broadcast Communication.
